Hello. I am John Stricklin,
professional photographer and photo editor of
South Mississippi Living
magazine (SML).
Having grown up in Alaska and Maine, my love for art and the
outdoors has always been great and continues to grow. I have always had
artistic abilities to draw or paint anything I see. Majoring in
architecture engineering in college and studying at the
New York Institute for Photography has
allowed me to further my love for all designs of life.
Many people influenced my
path to become a professional photographer and for that I am grateful.
My Uncle Raymond Baker, who was a professional photographer for many
years, always wanted me to become a photographer. He saw my potential and I am thankful to him. I thank
God for leading me and opening the door for me.

I
thank the love of my life, Dr. Kelley Samblis, who works at the University
of Southern Mississippi, for always inspiring me and encouraging me to be
more than I am.
I would love to thank a
friend, mentor, and exceptional photographer,
George Perina, for designing my
website and also for helping me to expand into underwater photography.
Thank you to South Mississippi Living magazine for challenging me every
day and allowing me to be their photo editor.
Lastly, I would love to
thank my family and friends that push and encourage me to be better and
better.
The equipment I use is Sony
Alpha a700 and the flagship a 900: at 25 mega pixels it delivers medium
format quality. The reason I use Sony and not the other more popular
brands like Canon and Nikon, is simple:
Sony has been a leader in everything
they have touched, from television to movie cameras, to underwater video,
with the flagship a900 they are promising to do the same thing in the dslr
arena as well.
